چکیده

19 Herpes virus type 2 (HSV2) is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections globally 20 with a very high prevalence in many countries. During HSV2 infection viral particles become 21 coated with complement proteins and antibodies, both existent in the genital fluids, which could 22 influence the activation of the immune responses. In genital mucosa, the primary target cells for 23 HSV2 infection are epithelial cells, but resident immune cells such as dendritic cells (DCs) are 24 also infected. The DCs are the activators of the ensuing immune responses directed against 25 HSV2, and the aim of this study was to examine the effects opsonization of HSV2, either with 26 complement alone or with complement and antibodies, had on the infection of immature DCs 27 and their ability to mount inflammatory and antiviral responses.

Complement Opsonization Promotes Herpes Simplex Virus 2 Infection of Human Dendritic Cells

UNLABELLED Herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV-2) is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections globally, with a very high prevalence in many countries. During HSV-2 infection, viral particles become coated with complement proteins and antibodies, both present in genital fluids, which could influence the activation of immune responses. Differential activity of candidate microbicides against early steps of HIV-1 infection upon complement virus opsonization

BACKGROUND HIV-1 in genital secretions may be opsonized by several molecules including complement components. Opsonized HIV-1 by complement enhances the infection of various mucosal target cells, such as dendritic cells (DC) and epithelial cells. RESULTS We herein evaluated the effect of HIV-1 complement opsonization on microbicide candidates' activity, by using three in vitro mucosal models:...

Opsonic requirements for dendritic cell-mediated responses to Cryptococcus neoformans.

The encapsulated pathogenic yeast Cryptococcus neoformans is poorly recognized by phagocytic cells in the absence of opsonins. Macrophages will bind and internalize complement- or antibody-opsonized C. neoformans; however, less is known about the role of opsonins in dendritic cell (DC)-mediated recognition of the organism. Thus, we studied the opsonic requirements for binding to C. neoformans b...

Blocking of integrins inhibits HIV-1 infection of human cervical mucosa immune cells with free and complement-opsonized virions

The initial interaction between HIV-1 and the host occurs at the mucosa during sexual intercourse. In cervical mucosa, HIV-1 exists both as free and opsonized virions and this might influence initial infection. We used cervical explants to study HIV-1 transmission, the effects of opsonization on infectivity, and how infection can be prevented. Complement opsonization enhanced HIV-1 infection of...

C3 promotes clearance of Klebsiella pneumoniae by A549 epithelial cells.

The airway epithelium represents a primary site for contact between microbes and their hosts. To assess the role of complement in this event, we studied the interaction between the A549 cell line derived from human alveolar epithelial cells and a major nosocomial pathogen, Klebsiella pneumoniae, in the presence of serum. In vitro, we found that C3 opsonization of poorly encapsulated K. pneumoni...
